In Spain on the eve of St. John’s day, people celebrate the arrival of summer by making bonfires. In Galicia there is a tradition of jumping over small bonfires to deter “bad spirits”. People have barbecues and eat grilled sardines with corn bread. It’s a great night and people of all ages have fun.

carnaval-verin-cigarronIt’s carnival time again and although the weather is very cold in Galicia, many people love to dress up in different costumes and go out to celebrate. It’s great fun and it’s amazing to see so many different costumes, some traditional, some classic and some that are incredibly original.

It could be as simple as a hat, a wig or some extra make-up or a complete costume that has been put together with great skill and attention to detail. You can see whole groups or families that have dressed up to represent a theme.

Congratulations to everyone who takes part in this big celebration!!

dear-santaDear Santa Claus: My Christmas wish list is…

But what is a “wish list” ?

A “wish” is a “deseo” in Spanish and these lists are made by children and adults to write what they wish for Christmas.

So what do YOU wish for this Christmas? Remember,  a wish can be anything, not just presents!

Send your wish to The Blog Wish List in a comment.
