Today is International Women’s Day. It is a day that celebrates women’s achievements in the world, past and present. Most women today can enjoy freedom, rights and jobs, thanks to those who fought for equality in the past. But remember that in some parts of the world that is not the case, and many women still suffer in silence.

Remember the work of women around you and respect their role in society.

Today is the day of the Oscar Awards in Hollywood, USA.

There are some great films nominated for the awards but we will have to wait until tomorrow to know the winners.

Among the nominations for Best Film are these two great animated films: Avatar and Up.

The Blog Photo Competition is open and we want you to send us your photos. You can modify and create an original image using your photo with these online websites. The winner will be named at the next Blog Workshop and they will receive a prize. The closing date for the competition is Monday 22nd March. Go to the WORKSHOP page for links to photo websites.

The next Blog Workshop Session will be about photography and we will be working with phtographs to create different effects. It is going to be interesting and fun!

Also we will be holding The Blog Photo Competition for 9 to 12 year olds. To enter all you have to do is present a photograph that you have taken. It can be of people (with their permission, of course), animals, objects or places…you could enter a carnival photo! The only condition is that you create the photo yourself. Then send your photo to corunablog@gmail.com or bring it to the next session.

The photos will be displayed in your local library. If you need some inspiration, take a look at these websites.

Carnival in Galicia

It’s carnival time again and although the weather is very cold in Galicia, many people love to dress up in different costumes and go out to celebrate. It’s great fun and it’s amazing to see so many different costumes, some traditional, some classic and some that are incredibly original.

It could be as simple as a hat, a wig or some extra make-up or a complete costume that has been put together with great skill and attention to detail. You can see whole groups or families that have dressed up to represent a theme.

Congratulations to everyone who takes part in this big celebration!!

Paint Like An Egyptian

The Blog Workshop this week was really interesting. We had great fun learning about Ancient Egyptian mummies and we also made our own mummies online which was a bit disgusting! (Extracting brains and organs!!)

*Don’t forget to colour your Pharaoah Mask and hand it in at your library so that we can include it here!
